Field Log — Privacy Policy

Field Log is a personal fitness and nutrition tracker. This page explains what data the app collects, how it’s stored, and what it’s used for.

What Field Log Collects

Data you enter directly:

  • Food entries (name, calories, protein, carbs, fat)
  • Workout entries (exercise, weight, sets/reps, or duration)
  • Body measurements (weight, body fat %, waist, hips, chest, arm/leg measurements)
  • Supplement tracking (which supplements you’ve taken, and when)
  • Your calorie, protein, carb, and fat targets, and your exercise plan

Data read from Apple Health (HealthKit), with your explicit permission:

  • Body Mass and Body Fat Percentage (used to auto-fill the Measure tab if you use a connected smart scale)
  • Active Energy and Resting Energy burned (used to calculate your daily calorie deficit)
  • Workout sessions (duration and type)

Field Log also writes estimated Active Energy data to Apple Health after a tracked Ruck session, so that calorie burn from rucking is reflected in your overall Health data. This is the only data Field Log writes back to Apple Health; no other feature does. The calorie estimate is computed from a standard load-carriage formula using your body weight, pack weight, pace, and terrain — it is an estimate, not a directly measured value.

Field Log writes to Apple Health only in this one specific case (Ruck session calorie estimates). It does not write, modify, or delete any other Health data, and it never requests more Health data than what is listed above.

Where Your Data Lives

All of the data listed above — your food logs, workouts, measurements, supplements, and targets — is stored locally on your device, using Apple’s on-device storage (SwiftData). Field Log does not have a server, does not require an account, and does not upload your personal tracking data anywhere.

If you use the Export Data feature, the resulting file (JSON or Markdown) is created locally on your device and shared only through the standard iOS Share Sheet, to a destination you choose. Field Log does not receive or store a copy of anything you export.

When you search for a food or scan a barcode, Field Log sends your search query (a food name or barcode number) to one or both of these public food databases to retrieve nutrition information:

  • USDA FoodData Central (a U.S. government public database)
  • Open Food Facts (an open, crowdsourced food database)

These requests contain only the search term or barcode — not your name, your other logged data, or any other personal information. Field Log does not control these third-party services’ own data practices; you can review their respective privacy policies for details on how they handle search requests on their end.

What Field Log Does Not Do

  • Field Log does not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party.
  • Field Log does not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
  • Field Log does not display ads.
  • Field Log does not require you to create an account or provide any personal identifying information (name, email, etc.) to use the app.

Data Deletion

Because all your data is stored locally on your device, deleting the app deletes your data along with it. There is no server-side copy to separately request deletion of.

Children’s Privacy

Field Log is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.
